Irwin Mitchell Sheffield Alliance Midweek Cricket League - roundup 9th August
Sheffield Collegiate duly secured the Premier Division title with a victory at relegated Caribbean. However, it was a far closer run thing than Collegiate may have expected, particularly when they posted a challenging 169-7 (A.Simpson 40, J.Root 33, J.Varley 31, M.Simpson 30, J.Clarke 4-29). Caribbean made a vigorous reply, but fell just 5 run short with 4 wickets down (G.Bowers 36, S.Miller 34, W.Bhatti 31). Attock finish in the runner’s up spot after beating Khan by 31 runs. Attock struggled initially, but made 147-8, thanks to a 6th wicket stand of 85 between skipper L.Ali (47) and N.Khan (38). Despite a quick fire 30 from Z.Ahmed, Khan ended at 116-9. TOA scored 120-8 (A.Agha 35) as opponents Frecheville, who were already relegated, used 10 bowlers! Frecheville reply closed at 108-5 (D.Smith 36, M.Donson 32).
Al-Mahdi needed to win to take the Division A title and to deny University Staff promotion. Al-Mahdi scored 118-4 (F.Ali 54). Despite a promising start, Staff lost wicket regularly and fell short at 94-8 (V.Reddy 3-20, S.Ali 3-20). Waterworks made 120-6 and in keeping Outokumpo to 82-7, also gained promotion to the Premier Division.
Division B provided the closest promotion battle behind champions Kashmir. Kashmir hit up 157-4 (N.Naheem 66, S.Khan 34, Z.Javed 31) and held Woodhouse to 97-6. Neither De La Salle or Meersbrook played and therefore finished on 27 points with identical playing records. Meersbrook gain promotion by a mere 0.18 runs on net run-rate! Richmond struggled to 74-2 (M.Rose 33), which Telecom breezed past with 8 wickets on hand.
Hollinsend were already confirmed as Division C champions before defeating TRS, a result that sees Hollinsend go through the entire season undefeated. Hollinsend made a formidable 151-3 (D.Elliott 46*, C.Jones 39, R.Wadsworth 36), to which TRS replied with 85-8. Ridgeway, secure in their promotion, totalled 117-3 (M.Cranfield 41*, R.Ravi 35*) and then restricted Brincliffe to 88-6, despite 53 from old sweat Jam Ferguson (A.Morley 3-15).
