Meersbrook Mash Up

This week’s report opens up in Division B, where league leaders Meersbrook took on bottom club Richmond over on Bawtry Road. Meersbrook openers Russell Walch and Adam Burkinshaw set about the Richmond bowling with gusto, both smashing centuries as Meersbrook ran up a monumental 227-1 in 16 overs. Burkinshaw was bowled for exactly 100 and Walch was 108 not out. Richmond’s reply staggered to 95 all out despite 46 from opener Holmshaw (Tomkin 4-24). Kashmir are hard on Meersbrook’s heels as they held Norton Oakes to 117-8 (Winnard 36, Aslam 3-9) and went on to win by 8 wickets (Z.Javed 52*, K.Javed 50*). De La Salle restricted Woodhouse to 74-9 (Howard 3-20) and won by 7 wickets. A triple wicket maiden by Sharrow opening bowler Salim Khan (4-6) saw his team hold Telecom to 81-7, which Sharrow surpassed for the loss of 2 wickets.

Meanwhile in the Premier Division, Sheffield Collegiate march on, this week holding Frechville to 115-5 (Donson 43). Then opener Michael Simpson smote 72 not out as his team cruised to an 8 wicket victory. Khan made 101-9 (Astam 3-23, Davis 3-24), which was overhauled by Darnall with the loss of 7 wickets (Iqbal 49). TOA were all out for 106, a total only attained thanks to some lower order biffing by Akram Khan who made a rapid 47 from 26 balls with 4 maximums. In reply the much fancied Attock slumped to 72 all out (Ilyas 3-5).

Al-Mahdi stay top of Division A by beating Waterworks. Al-Mahdi made 123-8 (Bandari 43, Hughes 3-25) and restricted Waterworks to 110-7 (Cooper 30, Singamsetti 3-16). Norton Woodseats made only 85-8 (Rauf 4-19), but tight bowling kept them in the game, 16 being needed from the last over. Up stepped skipper Jhangir Ahmed, who calmly knocked off the winning runs to finish at 38 not out. University Staff made 130-4 (Sharma 39). Aviva’s reply never got going and they were held to 90-8 (Young 3-20).

Division C leaders Ridgeway made 131-1, opener Rich Dewsbury clobbering 85 not out. Dronfield Contact made a spirited effort, closing on 111-4 (Raja 46, Firth 38). Hollinsend stay second after tumbling out Brincliffe for 57 (Wright 3-13) and going on to win by 8 wickets, Jones bashing 42 not out from just 13 balls. Aviva hit an impressive 147-4 (Buckton 39*, Beatson 35), but Al-Madhi’s openers were in fine form, knocking off the runs with ease - Setty 69* and Bandri 61*. In the other game to escape the weather, Norton Woodseats made 107-1 (J.Colgate 44*, Nicholas 38). Waterworks opener hit 68 not out, but just couldn’t push his side over the line, as the game ended in a thrilling tie (Armitage 3-12).
